Youthville has been promoting and strengthening families by helping children achieve and maintain permanency in Sedgwick County since 1996. The agency's comprehensive service delivery model is designed to provide continuity to children and their families; while at the same time expediting the process to achieve outcomes pertaining to safety, stability, well-being, and permanency. This is accomplished by assigning each child and family to a Permanency Team, compromised of a Permanency Specialist (previously known as Case Manager) and a Permanency Support Worker (formerly called a Family Support Worker) who work together to provide the best possible service.
Permanency services include ongoing assessment of risk and safety, family and child interactions, family conference meetings (case plan), advocating for the child in court proceedings and achieving and maintaining permanency. The Permanency team, with assistance from specialty units provides support to the child and family throughout the life of the case. The agency's goal is to find each child a permanent solution by reuniting families or providing a permanent solution through guardianship or adoption, when reunification isn't possible.
The first time Greg Adkins saw his daughter Paschence was at Youthville a year after her birth. Paschence had been living with her mother and was brought into foster care by SRS after being hospitalized for severe head injuries. Greg says he was very excited to be a father and was distraught when Paschence's mother disappeared just a few weeks before giving birth and he couldn't locate her. "I thank Youthville for looking out for the welfare of my child. None of the court orders they ask you to do is too difficult," says Greg. After completing all of the court orders and fighting for custody of Paschence, Greg now has sole custody of his daughter. "Paschence is my life, everything I do is for her," Greg adds.
