Who Are We?

Youthville's Trauma Recovery Center (TRC) is a new facility that provides innovative, evidence-based treatment and sustained support to children and their families who struggle with the effects of traumatic experiences such as abuse, neglect, and exposure to violence. The TRC is set to open in three phases. Opening in April 2009, the first year will focus on foster children awaiting adoption in order to increase the number of children adopted, reduce the amount of time children are in foster care and decrease failed adoptions. During the second year, the TRC will focus upon expanding services to families who have adopted and are experiencing severe difficulties with their adopted child. TRC staff will provide treatment and support to strengthen adoptive families and prevent disruption. In the third year, the TRC will concentrate on expanding services to treat children and families in the community who have been affected by trauma.

Why is it Different?

The TRC differs from other approaches serving abused and neglected children in three important ways.

• While many current treatment interventions focus on providing interventions to the child, the TRC emphasizes helping the child heal by helping the entire family.
• Caregivers receive education on the effects of trauma on children's behavior and learning, and the science behind the treatment interventions. They are also trained to provide interventions in the home that promote the child's healing.
• TRC staff provides the frequency and intensity of support necessary for the child and family to be successful with their treatment.

Interventions

The interventions and duration of treatment are individualized based on a comprehensive neurodevelopmental assessment, which include treatments such as therapeutic, educational, and enrichment activities. The TRC staff will coordinate any additional support and services needed.

Rates / Payment

Most major health insurances are accepted, including Medicaid, Medicare and Cenpatico. For those without insurance, a self-pay fee will be offered.

Partner Support Crucial

In order for the TRC to function effectively, ongoing financial support is needed. It is hoped that more than $400,000 can be raised annually to fund the program's operations. Please consider making a gift to support this important work to change the life of a child.
