Youthville Washington offers programs that improve the quality of life for vulnerable children through training, supporting and strengthening birth families and foster homes.
It is easier to become an adult if you've had a childhood and Youthville foster parents truly make a difference in the lives of children. The agency has a significant need for foster care homes for teens and special needs children.
As a continuum of Family Foster Care, Youthville offers Therapeutic Foster Care (TFC). TFC serves children between the ages of 5 and 21 years old who have severe behavioral and/or emotional issues. The goal of TFC is to change negative behaviors through structure and close supervision. Without this program, these children are at-risk of being hospitalized or placed in a residential treatment facility. TFC is successful due to the following provided support and services:
Regardless of the level of foster care a family provides, the basic process and requirements are the same. Some foster parents decide to provide therapeutic level care after gaining initial experience in foster care. Others start their foster care experience by immediately providing this level of care. Each family, with staff assistance, can make the decision that is best for them. With this level of care, the foster family implements key elements of treatment to the child. They are guided through the treatment plan and supported by clinical staff. Through TFC, children receive treatment and services needed while experiencing the benefits of living in a family.
Youthville's IMPACT Parenting Program (IMPACT) serves our most vulnerable children and their families to increase family bonding and help parents and caregivers provide a healthy physical and emotional environment for their children. IMPACT keeps children safe by empowering parents and caregivers to accept their role as their child's first, and most important teacher. By learning appropriate parenting skills and discipline strategies, parents are better able to protect their children, interact with them positively and encourage their growth and development, which prepares them for school and the experiences of childhood.
To achieve these outcomes and the overall agency mission, IMPACT utilizes evidence-based and best practice parent education tools, including The Incredible Years, which is a comprehensive parenting program designed to prevent, reduce and treat conduct problems among children. In addition, this program helps children experience increased parent-child relations, self-esteem and peer relations. This program is successful because IMPACT Parent Educators and Child Development Specialists are well qualified and experienced child welfare professionals who have a genuine desire to protect and support children through the education and support of their parents and caregivers. IMPACT also utilizes volunteers in a supportive role to the staff facilitators, specifically with regard to child care and food preparation.
IMPACT staff and volunteers help parents and caregivers achieve a safe, supportive environment with:
From clerical duties to working directly with youth, there are a wide variety of volunteer opportunities available for individuals or groups.
